Diabetic Foot Check
Annual ABPI circulation assessment with full GP report
Diabetes can affect the feet in a number of important ways. Reduced circulation and nerve damage (peripheral neuropathy) can mean that injuries, pressure sores, or infections go unnoticed β and without prompt attention, minor problems can become serious. Regular podiatry assessments are one of the most important things a person with diabetes can do to protect their long-term foot health.
The Ankle Brachial Pressure Index (ABPI) is a simple, non-invasive test that compares blood pressure readings at the ankle with those at the arm. It is used to detect peripheral arterial disease (PAD), which is more common in people with diabetes and can significantly affect healing. The test is painless and takes only a few minutes.
Most people with diabetes are recommended to have their feet checked at least once a year. However, if you have been assessed as being at higher risk β for example, if you have reduced sensation, a history of foot problems, or poor circulation β more frequent visits may be recommended.
Ewa will advise you on the appropriate frequency for your individual circumstances.
